It's Random Acts Of Kindness Day, and we're challenging you...
Christmas is over and the new year’s resolutions have begun.
If you’re in the 33% of people whose resolution is to lose weight, then you’re probably looking for some top tips on how to shed the pounds as quickly as possible.
We hate to have to be the ones to break it to you, but if you want to lose weight healthily and sustainably, then it is not going to be fast.
For most people, losing 2lbs of fat a week is the most realistic goal.
Any more than that is likely to involve seriously cutting down your calorie intake to a level that is not maintainable – therefore potentially resulting in binge eating and weight fluctuations.
Basically, losing weight fast is a pretty fruitless exercise (excuse the pun). For the most part, quick fixes are unsustainable and unhealthy.
There are, however, ways you can lose weight faster.
Here are our top tips.
Keep track of what you’re eating
If you’re in a calorie deficit you’re going to lose weight – it’s that simple.
However, you want to make sure you’re doing this in a sensible way to lower the chances of you binge eating. Tracking your food is a great way to monitor what you’re putting in your body and understanding your own eating habits.
Top tip: Try using an app such as MyFitnessPal to monitor not only your calories but also your macros. This will help ensure you’re giving your body what it needs.
Exercise (but don’t get carried away)
Exercising will help you to create a calorie deficit and will, therefore, contribute to speeding up your weight loss.
However, don’t get carried away.
You need to make sure you’re giving your body time to recover and building up your exercise levels slowly and sensibly.
Top tip: Exercise comes with a lot more benefits than just weight loss. Don’t get disheartened! Not all progress can be seen on the scales.
Don’t ban foods
Banning food, you love will only make you resent your new healthy lifestyle.
Try not to label foods as ‘good’ and ‘bad’– there is no reason that you cannot eat foods you enjoy if you’re staying in your calorie allowance.
Eat regular meals
Losing weight should not mean skipping meals.
Make sure you’re eating healthy, balanced meals! Using MyFitnessPal is a great way to ensure that each meal is providing you with a healthy ration of protein, carbohydrates and fats.
Top tip: If you tend to find you’re skipping meals because you’re short on time or cannot find anything healthy in the work canteen, give meal prepping a go.
Get enough sleep
What does sleep have to do with weight loss I hear you ask – actually, quite a lot!
Be realistic about your weight loss journey and remember that patience really is a virtue.
