The 101 Guide To Vegan Restaurants | London

Categories

Google: vegan restaurants, near me...

Results: an overwhelming amount of menus boasting 'spirulina-infused quinoa and avocado milk'...

Me: tofu or avo on toast it is then.

We've all been there... and let's face it, the meal that you did end up eating, was probably just a bit mehh in comparison to the dish that you originally had in mind.

This is where it all stops - London, we've found just a few of the hidden vegan hotspots. Check them out right here...

WULF & LAMB

"Run with the wolves, eat with the lambs" is the ethos of Wulf & Lamb...

Hosted on a cutesy street - Wulf & Lamb is well suited to the Chelsea crowd, but despite the glamour and the glitz, it's still an order-at-the-till kind of place.

Wulf & Lamb impresses; the menu is replete with vegan alternatives to popular dishes, including a spicy, meaty chilli 'non' carne served with a dollop of cashew sour cream, and a hearty seitan burger served in a brioche bun, topped with plant-based cheese.

Oh, and that's not all. Desert calls.

We're talking vegan doughnuts, bundt cakes, passionfruit cheesecake, tiramisu to name but a few of the delights whipped up by the vegan Gods.

VEGAN HOMEY AND/OR JUNK FOOD CLASSICS.

Designed with millennials in mind - a pink neon sign reads: 'guac, save the Queen', there's floral wallpaper in the loos and you can even purchase By Chloe merch...

For all its bells and whistles though, this is essentially a meat-free fast-food joint. Juicy meatball subs swap out mince for mushroom balls slathered in marinara and basil pesto.

Best for: Vegan burgers, chocolate chip cookies the size of your face and mac n cheese sooo creamy, that customers find it hard to believe it doesn't contain cheese. Not to mention their (tofu) fish n chips!

The Vurger Co.

Unit 9, Avant Garde Building, 6 Richmix Square, Cygnet Street, Shoreditch, E1 6LD

Nearest station: Liverpool Street | IG: @thevurgerco

The plant-based burger can be a difficult thing to get right. Clagginess is to be avoided at all costs.

Vurger is a shiny new addition to Shoreditch's vegan scene AND avoids clagginess.

It's a bright café space, all white-painted brick walls, neon scrawl and wooden tables, and provides you with a menu that avoids any faux meat but draws out the vital: flavour, chomp and crunch from pure vegetables. Haven't updated your IG feed yet? You know where to go...

Best for: Four different kinds of vegan burgers, this American style diner opened this year to streets full of punters queuing just to get a taste. After a lengthy but successful crowdfunding campaign, the Vurger Co. team have finally opened their permanent residence to resounding success. Go, go, go...

"The Hot New Thing In Notting Hill"

Farmacy is putting the joy into healthy food with delicious plant-based cooking free from dairy produce, refined sugars and additives.

Filled with flowers, the large airy room is a magnet for well-off locals of all ages during the week, with queues from further afield at the weekend.

Along with soups, juices and snacks, there are hearty ‘earth bowl’ dishes of various sorts: try quinoa with avocado, seaweed, sauerkraut, greens, sweet potato and sesame ginger dressing. Burgers are made from millet, beans and mushrooms, ice cream from naturally sweet African tiger nut, and pizzas involve spelt sourdough and macadamia ‘cheese’.

This is ‘clean eating’ in a fun and fashionable setting – and trust us, it works.
