One-Kit Wonder | TRX Core workout

It might often be neglected, but the TRX is actually one of the most versatile pieces of kit in the gym. 

Add some of these exercises to your abs workout and feel the burn. 

The Pike

  • Start in a straight-arm plank with your feet in the foot cradles of the TRX. 
  • Once you’re stable, keep your core engaged and lift your hips towards the ceiling, keeping your arms and legs straight and your feet in a flexed position. 
  • As your hips lift, look towards your knees and keep your spine neutral to prevent injury. 

Knee Tuck 

  • For the knee tuck start in the same position as you did for the pike. 
  • Rather than lifting your hips upwards, for this exercise, you need to bring your knees in towards your torso. 
  • Keep your core tight and the movement slow and controlled. 

Oblique crunches 

Oblique crunches are similar to knee tucks, but they focus more on the obliques. They’re a little more challenging as well so master the knee tuck before giving these a go.

  • As you bring your knees in, rather than moving them forwards, you need to twist at the waist so that the side of your thighs are running parallel to the floor. 
  • Slowly return to the starting position and then repeat twisting to the opposite side. 

Atomic Push-up 

The atomic push up not only challenges your core but also puts your upper body strength to the test. 

  • Start in the straight arm plank position with your feet in the foot cradles of the TRX.
  • From this position perform the push-up, return back and then bring your knees in towards your torso (just like the knee tuck). 

Plank

Fancy upgrading your plank? Give it a try using the TRX. 

  • Place your feet in the foot cradles and go onto your forearms. Make sure you keep your core tight and your spine neutral. 
  • Keep your core engaged throughout and don’t rush. 

Before you give these a go, make sure you’ve mastered your core exercises on a stable and secure platform to prevent any injury.
