Here is our step by step guide to getting into meditation.
So, you’re ready to start meditating.
First up, we’d recommend knowing what you’re doing it for.
You’re a lot more likely to stick to something if you understand how you’re going to benefit from it so give it a quick research. If you’re a target motivated person, you might even want to set yourself some realistic goals to refer back to if you go off track.
Next up, get comfy. This can be quite literally anywhere. Wherever you feel relaxed and comfortable is perfect!
Now you’re ready, let’s get set.
Don’t get too bogged down with ‘getting it right’. There are loads and loads of guidelines, and you can guarantee they’ll all be different. That’s because your set up is unique to you.
Just sit up nice and straight, don’t worry about your hands or contorting yourself into some uncomfortable position you’ve seen on Instagram – just do what feels right for you.
Okay, you’re good to go.
Check in with how you’re feeling and then begin to focus your attention on your breath. Your mind will almost definitely wander, don’t worry about it! When it does just bring it back to your breathing. If you’re feeling settled, you can always try counting your breaths in and out to keep your focus.
You don’t have to do it for long at first. Aim for 2 minutes and then as you get more used to it you can begin to increase the time you spend meditating.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing – even just 2 minutes a day is a good start.
Don’t worry too much about the rules and regulations. Meditation is a unique experience so just focus on doing what feels good for you.
