We all know that eating well is important for our physical health; however, a recent study published in Nutritional Neuroscience has revealed that what we fuel our body with can also have an impact on our mental wellbeing. 

The study revealed that consuming a Western diet can have a negative impact on our mood, especially in women who instead benefit from a more Mediterranean style diet. 

This is because the Western diet is based around high amounts of caffeine and sugary, fried foods, which can result in inflammation, a spike in blood sugar and an increase in the release of the stress hormone, cortisol. 

A Mediterranean diet, on the other hand, is full of nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, which can help restore hormonal balance and allows your brain to communicate to the rest of your body more effectively foods.
