There are many reasons you might have hit a plateau in your training and have stopped hitting your goals.
Han from Wellness and Wander shares 5 bad habits that could be to blame, and how to overcome them.
Whether you notice it or not, we all pick up habits which can slow down health and fitness progress. It is totally normal to hit hurdles along the way, such as injury and lack of motivation, but being aware and stopping unhealthy habits will help you hit your goals earlier.
HERE ARE 5 HABITS THAT WILL SLOW DOWN YOUR HEALTH AND FITNESS PROGRESS
NOT BEING MINDFUL OF FOOD
What we choose to eat and drink plays a big part in our health and fitness progress.
Eating a balanced diet is crucial to achieving healthy and sustainable goals. However, that doesn’t mean you have to restrict yourself from what you want.
Make meals from scratch with whole-food ingredients, drink plenty of water and still enjoy what you like in moderation.
YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET
Off days are totally normal. However, your mindset can affect your fitness progress.
When you feel motivated and focused on your goal, you are more likely to have a great workout and feel good about it.
It is common for people to underestimate themselves and put themselves down, especially at the beginning of a fitness journey when results take a little time to surface.
Concentrate on your goals, your achievements and celebrate what your body can do.
YOU'RE NOT TRACKING YOUR WORKOUTS
Do you keep track of your gym sessions or runs? If not, you should.
If you don’t record your progress, how will you know if you are progressing or hitting a plateau?
Recording your journey is a great way to look back and see how far you have come from when you started.
YOU'RE NOT GETTING ENOUGH REST
Scheduling rest days are just as important as the actual workouts.
When you workout you are breaking down your muscles in order for them to grow stronger. If you don’t allow your body to rest and recover, you are more likely to injure yourself.
Give your body the rest it deserves between working hard.
YOU'RE NOT CHALLENGING YOURSELF
Your body can get used to routines and exercises over time, so it is important to mix up your schedule and activities to avoid hitting a plateau.
So, what can you do? Signing up to new exercise classes, lift heavier weights, learn new lifts or add more cardio into your routine.
Luckily, these bad habits are all easy to rectify! Follow these tips, and you will find yourself making progress again in no time at all.
